Sukhnandan calls on Union Drinking Water Minister

NEW DELHI, Dec 23: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sukhnandan Kumar called on Union Minister for Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Sanitation & Drinking Water Chaudhary Birender Singh and apprised him about the implementation of National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) and various other schemes in the state.
Sukhnandan informed the Union Minister about various measures undertaken by State Government for providing clean drinking water to the people under NRDWP and requested for release of pending funds under the scheme for its proper implementation.
The Union Minister assured that second installment of funds under NRDWP would be released soon. It is pertinent to mention here that NRDWP caters to the emerging challenges in rural drinking water sector relating to availability, sustainability and quality of drinking water. It aims at moving forward from achieving habitation level coverage towards household level drinking water coverage.
The PHE Minister informed the Union Minister that by the end of current financial year, more than 5 lakh people living in 752 habitations across the state would be provided clean drinking water.
The Union Minister asked PHE Minister to prepare multi-village schemes for augmenting water supply in kandi areas and assured assistance from the Central Government for the project.
Joint Director Planning Shabir Shafi and other concerned officers of the department accompanied the Minister during the visit.
