KARGIL, Aug 8: During his ongoing tour of Ladakh region, the Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sukhnandan Kumar today visited several villages of Shakarchikentan Sub-Division of Kargil district where incessant rains and flashfloods have caused damages to property, crops besides other infrastructure including water supply schemes, irrigation canals and protection bunds.
The Minister visited Bodhkharboo, Hamiskop, Chikthan, Samrah, Hajnif and Shakr villages and took stock of relief and rehabilitation measures put in place by the Government.
While interacting with the people at various places, the Minister assured them all possible help from the Government. He directed district administration Kargil to assess the losses and submit a detailed report in shortest possible time for providing relief to the affected people. He directed the engineers of PHE and Irrigation Flood Control Departments to ensure speedy restoration of water supply schemes and irrigation canals.
Sukhnandan enjoined upon the officers to remain at beck and call of the people in case of any future eventuality. He instructed the officers to work in coordination and ensure that the people don’t face any inconvenience.
Executive Counselor, Rural Development Department, LAHDC Kargil, Aga Syed Abass, SE PWD, SE PHE and senior officers of district administration accompanied the Minister during the visit.
Later, the Minister convened a meeting with Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Kargil and district administration and reviewed the rehabilitation measures undertaken by the administration.
The Minister also assured that the matter of stocking of diesel, ration and other essential commodities would also be taken up with concerned Minister.
