Sulakhni drubs Akanksha in women’s singles final

JAMMU, Sept 11: Toppling strong contender Akanksha in straight sets in the summit clash, talented shuttler Sulakhni lifted the women’s singles badminton title in the ongoing 28th Jammu District Badminton Championship, being organized by the Jammu City and District Badminton Association at Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, here today.
Sulakhni won the first set easily by (21-12) and got better of the rival in the second set by (21-14) to clinch the title.
In Under-13 boys singles final, Aesh Goswami drubbed Aryan Nagpal by (21-7, 22-20) in a tough contest to win the title.
In the men’s quarterfinals, Vikram Saini prevailed over Rahul Sharma by (21-19, 21-18) and sealed berth in the semifinals, while in another quarterfinal match of men’s category, Aman Badyal trounced Shantul Raina by (21-9, 17-21 and 21-16).
Meanwhile, in Under-15 boys semifinals, Raghav Dogra got better of Akhil by (21-12, 21-13) to storm into the finals, while in the quarterfinals earlier, Raghav defeated Aryan by (21-8, 21-7).
In Under-19 boys doubles, Ashya and Akhil lost to Divam and Divyam in the semifinals by (12-21, 5-21), while in Under-17 girls doubles finals, Soubhagani and Mitakshara prevailed over Peehushi and Naman by (21-19, 21-9) to claim the title.
In veteran singles, Daljit Singh defeated Vivek Salathia by (21-18, 21-8), while in veteran doubles, the duo of Vivek and Nagpal got better of Pankaj and Raghubir by (21-10, 21-14), while RJ Singh and Sunil Behal lost to Khajuria and Raju by (14-21, 12-21).
The matches in men’s section were on between the top contenders of the State when the reports came in.
