Sumo plunges into gorge, 2 minors among 9 injured

JAMMU, May 9: Nine persons including two minor children were injured when the Tata sumo they were traveling in skidded off the road and plunged into gorge near Batyas in district Doda.
The ill-fated vehicle bearing registration number JK06-4919 was on its way to Jakyas from Gandoh when the driver lost control over the steering and the vehicle plunged into 100-meter deep gorge near Batyas, resulting into injuries to all the occupants.
On getting information, police and locals rushed to the spot and started rescue operation.
All the injured were shifted  to Public Health Centre (PHC) Gandoh from where one of the seriously injured passengers identified as retd subedar Shamas Din Malik of Gandoh was referred to District Hospital Doda for advanced treatment.
The injured have been identified as Mangtullah, Tilak Raj, Shahida Begum, Abdul Kabir, Abdul Gani and Hashim Din, all resident of Gandoh. The identity of two minor children was yet to be ascertained.
A case under relevant Sections has been registered at police station Gandoh and manhunt has been launched to arrest the driver, who escaped from the spot after the accident.
