LONDON: Indian Javelin thrower Sundar Singh Gurjar clinched first gold medal for India at the World Para Athletics Championship in F46 category here.
He recorded his personal best of 60.36m on the first night of the tournament.
Dinesh Priyantha Herath of Sri Lanka came second with 57.93m, followed by defending champion China’s Guo Chunliang with a season best of 56.14m.
Sundar who hails from Rajasthan was disqualified during last year at the Rio Paralympics as he could not reach in time for the F46 javeling throw event. The same event in which Devendra Jhajharia bagged gold.
In February this year, Sundar put up an impressive performance winning gold medals in javelin, shot put and discuss throw at Fazza IPC Athletics Grand Prix. (AGENCIES)
