KATHUA, Sept 14: Minister for Transport (Independent Charge) Sunil Kumar Sharma said that the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) has achieved another milestone towards fully computerized working in all its units across the State and efforts are afoot to provide online service delivery to bring more transparency and accountability in the working of the department.
He was speaking after inaugurating State’s first Online Learner License Test facility at RTO Office in Kathua today.
The services not only provide facilities at the homes and villages of applicants, but also eliminate scope of corruption, while speeding up processes.
Kathua district has become the first district in the State having Online Learner License Test Facility through Sarathi 4.0 an online software developed by MoRTH, GoI wherein applicant can apply for various services of driving license through online mode on the website parivahan.gov.in with facility for fee payment. The applicant then chooses a date as per his convenience and visits the office for online LL test on the appointed date. He has to correctly answer 6 out of 10 questions to pass the test. Thereafter approval is granted online and applicant can take printout of his Learner License at his place without visiting the office.
Commissioner Secretary, Transport, Hemant Sharma informed that after successfully launching the facility in Kathua, the department is making endeavour to replicate it in all the districts of the State within a period of two months. The department is also taking up the task of home delivery of driving license and other documents for which a MoU will be signed with Postal Department.
To strengthen the SRTC, new fleet of vehicle will be added and new AC coaches will also in offing through private partnership mode, he added.
Transport Commissioner, Saugat Biswas added that the department is already offering various services such as registration of vehicles, divers license generation, tax deposits and fitness of vehicles online. The online learner test will be another feather in its cap, he added.
Representatives of Truck Union, Mini Bus Association and Jammu Kathua Bus Union apprised the Minister about their problems and demands.
Joint Transport Commissioner Vikas Sharma, RTO Kathua (Lakhanpur) Amarjeet Singh, RTO Jammu Deep Raj, ARTO Kathua Indu Jamwal and large number of people were also present.
