JAMMU, May 25: A newly developed cricket ground namely ‘Sunjuwan Oval’ in Higher Secondary School, Sunjuwan, Bhathindi, Jammu is a beautiful ground, which will cater to the needs of thousands of sportspersons, especially cricketers of this area as it is the only ground there, which has the capacity to hold sports extravaganzas.
As per the reliable sources, the development of this 27-kanal oval shaped ground was only possible due to the efforts made by the District Administration headed by Deputy Commissioner, Simrandeep Singh, who has left no stone unturned in its preparation.
The ground will be formally inaugurated with the opening of the Inter-School Cricket Tournament tomorrow by Minister for Education, Naeem Akhter and Minister for Law & Justice and Rural Development Abdul Haq in presence of Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Simrandeep Singh. Five teams will be participating in this tournament.
When contacted, Mr Simrandeep said that the venue was simply a jungle and it was in April 2015 that leveling and allied developmental work was initiated in this ground after his and Minister for Education’s visit to the site, adding that it took around ten months to make the ground playable and ready for mega events.
He said that the development of the ground took 63 lakhs, out of which 25 lakhs for the developmental work of 25 days was provided by the Army, while the Department of Youth Services and Sports and Department of Education provided rest of the money.
“The development of beautiful playground at Sunjuwan is a great initiative of the Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Simrandeep Singh. He alongwith other agencies deserve appreciation,” said Ranjeet Kalra, vice chairman, j&k State Sports Council, Jammu and Member BCCI.
