Swashbuckling Ravi steals show as WCC scripts narrow win

SRINAGAR, Aug 9: Right-handed opening batsman Ravi Pandita slammed a blitzkrieg unbeaten ton and guided Whites Cricket Club (WCC), Srinagar to a narrow win by 2 wickets over the formidable side of Coaching Centre Sopore (CCS) to move into the next round in the ongoing Parvaiz Qureshi Memorial Invitational Cricket Cup, being organized by the Kashmir wing of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association at Kashmir University grounds, here.
Chasing a target of 204 runs in the stipulated 40 overs, WCC sailed on a sparkling innings of unbeaten 114 runs by Ravi Pandita and surpassed the required target in 39.2 overs by losing 8 wickets in the process, thus won the match by 2 wickets. Ravi struck 13 handsome boundaries and hit all the shots with fluid grace and pure brilliance, sending the rival bowlers on a leather-hunt in marathon knock. Adil Ahmed also contributed 23 off 27 balls. Javed was the most successful bowler for Coaching Centre Sopore, who took 2 wickets.
Earlier, put into bat, CCS scored 203 runs in 37.2 overs. Youngster Haziq Bhat played a brilliant innings of 74 runs off 78 balls, which included 4 fours and 2 massive sixes, while Javed contributed valuable 36 runs to the total. For WCC, Rohit Pandita was the pick of the bowlers, who claimed 3 wickets in his 8 overs by conceding 28 runs, while Abhinav Kaw took 2 wickets in his 4 overs by giving away 22 runs.
The match was officiated by Nazir Ahmed and Ashiq Ahmed as umpires, while Javed Ahmed maintained the scorebook.
The match among others was witnessed by former Indian Test cricketer Bishen Singh Bedi.
