Sweets workshop sealed, 8 sellers challaned by Food Safety team

JAMMU, Nov 10: Continuing its drive against food adulteration, Food Safety wing of Drug and Food Control Organization today sealed a sweets workshop and challaned 8 sweet sellers in Jammu for violations of FSS Act 2006 and also lifted 11 samples of sweets for ascertaining their quality or adulteration if any.
On the directions of Commissioner, Drug and Food Control Organization, Shakeel-ur-Rehman, a team of Food Safety Officers headed by Assistant Commissioner, Food Safety, Municipal Limits Jammu, Dr Parvesh Kumar inspected various sweets workshops as well as sweets shops in Jammu City and its adjoining areas so as to check the adulteration of food items, particularly sweets, in view of upcoming Diwali festival.
The team inspected Sain Di Hatti and Bansi Di Hatti at Pacca Danga, Lalli Di Hatti, Baniya Di Hatti and Casino at Purani Mandi, M/s Pehalwan at Sanjay Nagar and Rawal Pindi Sweet Shop at Jain Bazaar. Eight establishments were challaned for unhygienic and other contraventions. Among challaned were Sain Di Hatti, Bansi Di Hatti, Lali Di Hatti, Bansi Di Hatti at Nai Basti and Rawal Pindi.
Besides, the team stopped commercial activities of Sain Di Hatti Pacca Danga at the ground floor as the construction work was going on simultaneously. One sweets workshop under the name and style ‘Ram Rattan Workshop’ was sealed by the team at Gangyal as the owner was running the business without obtaining license from the licensing authority.
Moreover, the Food Safety team also lifted samples of sweets from several establishments for ascertaining their quality and purity and adulteration if any. All the shopkeepers were advised by the team to wear mask, use proper dress code, use appropriate labels and tags like ‘use best before’ and maintain personal hygiene.
