JAMMU, Sept 13: One more person has died of Swine flu in Jammu region taking the number of people died due to the dreaded disease to 2 while seven more dengue cases were also reported today.
According to a health official, a 50-year-old man namely Sher Singh of Chanderkote (Ramban) has become second victim of swine flu. He said that the man with swine flu symptoms was admitted in emergency ward of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu for last many days and he died on last Sunday but as his test report was awaited and came today, it became clear only today that the man was suffering from swine flu.
He said that with this death, the toll due to swine flu in Jammu region has reached to 2. “Earlier last month, a woman identified as Asha Rani (43), wife of Ashok Kumar, resident of Pounichak (Jammu), who was also a diabetics patient, had died due to this dreaded disease in GMCH Jammu”, he added.
The official said till date about 48 suspected patients have been tested for H1N1 virus out of which 8 persons have been found positive, 38 negative while the report of two is still awaited. “Out of 8 positive cases, maximum 4 patients belonged to Jammu district; two have been reported from Udhampur while one each patient has been detected in Rajouri and Ramban districts”, the official said, adding out of these eight swine flu affected people, 5 are adult (2 males and 3 females) and 3 children (2 males and one female).
He further informed that seven fresh cases of dengue were also reported today, taking the total number of dengue patients in Jammu region so far to 45.
“The maximum number of 38 dengue cases has been reported from Jammu district followed by Samba district, which has 2 such cases while one case each has been reported from Poonch, Rajouri, Udhampur, Kathua and Doda districts”, he said.
He said that a total of 401 patients were tested for dengue till today out of which 45 cases were found to be positive and reports of 236 were found negative while result of 120 samples are still awaited. “No death has been reported due to Dengue so far”, he added.
He further revealed that out of these 45 dengue patients, 34 were adults (23 males and 11 females) and 11 were children (7 males and 4 females).
The official said that so far Dengue has not claimed any life in Jammu region and most of the patients affected with the disease have returned to their home after successful treatment while out of those who are still under treatment, no one is critical.
