UDHAMPUR, Jan 23: On the eve of National Girl Child Day a symposium on the topic “Beti Bachao Desh Bachao, Save the Girl Child” was organized by NGO Jan Sangharsh in the premises of Govt Boys Higher Secondary School, here.
Chowdhary Lal Singh, former Minister was the chief guest on the occasion, while Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Deputy Commissioner was the guest of honour.
Eleven students from different institutions of the District participated in the symposium. Students while speaking expressed their views regarding the need to realize the serious problem of imbalance in the sex ratio in the country.
While speaking Lal Singh said that very strict laws will be framed in future so that no one can even dare to think of abort the female fetus. He praised the organizers to organize such awareness programmes.
Earlier, a Guard of Honour by the NCC students of the institution was given to the chief guest. Students of Govt. Boys Hr. Sec. School Udhampur presented a skit based on the Beti Bachao which moved the spectators.
Sunil Sharma, Principal of the institution welcomed the chief guest, other dignitaries and the participants.
Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Deputy Commissioner Udhampur and Sanjeet Bavouria (Advocate), president of the NGO also spoke on the occasion.
The Programme was judged by Kewal Sharma, Lecturer English, Rajni Pathania, Lecturer English and  Veena Kumar, Lecutrer in Hindi.
Munishwer Kumar of Govt Boys Hr. Sec. School Udhampur got the first prize, while Ujaswani Gupta of Maharaja Hari Singh, DAV School was declared second and Meenakshi Sharma of AOC Hr. Secondary School claimd the third position.
