JAMMU, Oct 10: Organized by Udhampur Table Tennis Academy, the 3-day District Table Tennis championship was today declared open by MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia at Badminton Hall of Mini Stadium, Udhampur.
About 150 players in different categories are participating in the said championship. The championship is being organized with the motive to encourage the sports culture in the town which is the need of the hour. This is the only way to channelize the energy of the youth in positive direction.
The four matches were played today in Sub-Junior Singles. In the 1st match, Swapan beat Gaurav Jamwal by 2-0 while Samar Singh defeated Abhishek Singh by 2-0 in the 2nd match. Mahi Kailla thrashed Sparsh by 2-0 (11-9, 11-7) in 3rd match whereas in 4th match, Pratap Singh drubbed Tushar Mehra by 2-0.
The matches were officiated by Tridev Singh, Sunny and Tarun.
