POONCH, Oct 9: The Taekwondo Championship for girls began today at the Poonch Taekwondo Academy, organized by the Social Welfare Department Poonch in collaboration with the District Poonch Taekwondo Association under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme. The event was held under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Vikas Kundal, and the supervision of District Social Welfare Officer Wakeel Ahmed Bhatt. More than 100 Taekwondo girl athletes from various clubs participated in this three-day championship.
The opening ceremony was graced by Tehsildar Haveli, Azhar Majeed, as the chief guest. Other dignitaries included Priyanka Singh, Centre Administrator OSC and President of PDTA, Ashfaq from the Accounts Department of Social Welfare, Taranpreet Kour, Specialist in Financial Literacy from Sankalp Hub for Women Empowerment, Noreen Akhter, Gender Specialist from Sankalp Hub, and Ajaz Rather, Accounts Assistant from Sankalp Hub.
The chief guest interacted with the participants and applauded the efforts of the Poonch District Taekwondo Association for providing an excellent platform to the girls of Poonch. Rajinder Singh, Taekwondo Coach from the Department of Youth Services and Sports, highlighted the achievements of Poonch’s Taekwondo players at the UT and National levels and thanked the district administration and Social Welfare Department for organizing this championship on the occasion of International Day of the Girl Child.
All bouts were held under the technical supervision of Rajinder Singh, along with referees and national medalists Akarshit Sudan, Toseef Tahir, Vishnu Raina, Irfan Ahmed and Vanshika Sharma.
The results were Shenaz Kouser, Kritika Raina, Wasia Kouser, Tejasvin Kour, Sana Chouhan, Sabha Kouser, Sumaiya Majid, and Ruksana Kouser won Gold. Mariam Nissa, Rukhsar Fatima, Tasleem Kouser, Insha Imran, and Ameena Kouser secured silver medals.
