Poonch, Oct 11: The Social Welfare Department of Poonch, in collaboration with the District Poonch Taekwondo Association held a Taekwondo Championship for girls. The event, organized at the Poonch Taekwondo Academy, attracted over 100 female athletes from various clubs and institutions.
The closing ceremony was graced by Deputy Commissioner Vikas Kundal as the chief guest, with Tehsildar Haveli Azhar Majeed, as the guest of honour. Other dignitaries included DySP DAR Anuroop Sharma and various local leaders. During the event, Kundal congratulated the winners and interacted with participants, emphasizing the importance of sports in empowering girls.
The championship featured a self-defense demonstration by the Taekwondo athletes, showcasing their skills and confidence. All bouts were conducted under the technical supervision of experienced coaches and referees, ensuring fair play and adherence to standards.
Asma Tabassum, Gurnoor Kaur, and Ruksana Kouser were named the best players in the Pee Wee, Subjunior and Cadet age groups. The event celebrated girl empowerment and highlighted the commitment to promoting sports among young women in the region.
