BARAMULLA, June 13: Sports lovers of Baramulla have something to cheer about. The Government is setting up a Sports Academy here to train young boys and girls and prepare them for national level competitions. An Astroturf would also be laid for betterment of sports.
This was announced by Minister for Medical Education and Youth Services & Sports, Taj Mohi-ud-Din while addressing the closing ceremony of Ist phase of Summer Coaching Camp which concluded, here today.
The Minister said sports is imperative for the development of one’s personality and said once caught and coached at young age, many national and international players would come from the budding youth.
The Minister said Rs 700 crore central package to strengthen sports infrastructure in the State is in pipeline.
Young players from all across the State attended the coaching camp in which they were imparted training in games like athletics, hockey, football, kabaddi, handball and basketball.
On the occasion, an exhibition match was played between the teams of Baramulla-XI and Forests-XI which was won by Forests-XI.
Deputy Commissioner, Baramulla, GA Khawaja, Secretary State Sports Council, Dileep Thusoo, Deputy General Officer Commanding, 19th Infantry Division, Brig J Sindhu, DIG, CRPF and other senior officers of District administration, Police and Army were present on the occasion.
