Taj stresses on corporate support to sports development in J&K

SRINAGAR, Oct 5: Minister for Medical Education and Youth Services & Sports, Taj Mohi-ud-Din today appealed the corporate sector of the state to come forward and help in the development of sports as has been happening in other states and at the national level.
Addressing a prize distribution function of the 12th Tour de Kashmir here today, the Minister said corporate sector, like the Government, has the obligation for the development, welfare and prosperity of the society. He asked the corporate sector to help in the strengthening and development of sports infrastructure in J&K and help in promoting games by sponsorships, affiliations and other activities.
Mr Taj said a massive programme has been launched in the state aimed at developing and improving sports infrastructure in the State. He said from October 15 this year, a centrally sponsored scheme – Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan- would be launched in the country under which sports field in every panchayat would be developed and each block would have an indoor sports complex.
The Minister asked the Youth Services and Sports Department to explore areas of youth development including career counselling, youth clubs, drug de addiction etc aimed at development and betterment of our younger generations and creating encouraging environs for them.
Earlier, Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Farooq Ahmad Shah presented welcome address.
Later, the Minister gave away prized among the winners of the tour.
Earlier, the organizers thanked the Minister and his department for supporting the event and other sports activities in the state ever since he took over the charge of the department.
