Tak flags off 44-member contingent for MP

JAMMU, Apr 29: Member Legislative Council and President J&K Water Sports Kayaking and Canoeing Association. Firdous Tak flagged off a contingent of 44 players to participate in 6th National Dragon Boat Racing Championship 2017 at Bhind, Madhya Pradesh.
The contingent will participate in series of events in the category of Men, Women and Mixed during the championship starting from May 2. The championship is being organised by Indian Kayaking and Canoeing Association and around 25 states are participating.
The team reached here at Jammu Railway Station from where it was flagged off by Tak in presence of other members of the Association. The team underwent hectic month long training at government run Water Sports Centre Srinagar under national coach Bilquis Mir.
Speaking on the occasion Tak said that Jammu and Kashmir is bestowed with natural resources for all kinds of adventure sports. “However, the state is best for water sports as we have both flat and wild water bodies available for rafting, kayaking, canoeing and dragon boat like events”, he said adding that in some parts of the state children are born with natural talent of peddling.
“In last few years the state has excelled in water sports and has won many prestigious championship at the national level”, he said adding that around three players have also been selected for international training camps.
“The present government headed by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has laid special emphasis on promotion of sports and water sports is one of the prime focoused area”, he said adding that state sports ministry and State Sports Council has also been at the forefront the promote the game and encourage the players at state and national level.
