JAMMU, Feb 27: Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, NWR Madhu Mahajan and Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Amritsar Narender Singh today held series of meetings with the officers of Income Tax Department, J&K Circle to review the actions being taken to achieve the action plan targets set out by the Central Board of Direct Taxes.
During the meetings, action vis-à-vis budget collection, recovery of demand, operation clean money, cash deposits during demonetization period etc was reviewed.
Madhu Mahajan asked the officers to take aggressive measures to recover outstanding demand by conducting recovery surveys, attachment and auction of movable and immovable properties and issuance of warrant of arrest against the habitual tax defaulters etc.
She also directed the officers to take stern action, which includes launching of prosecutions against those who have either not filed returns of income or have understated their income.
During the review meetings, it was found out that many DDOs have not uploaded the TDS deducted from the taxpayers on AS 26 and there is huge mismatch in the tax deducted and tax paid. As a result, the taxpayers are facing great difficulties in getting tax credits.
Principal Chief Commissioner asked the officers to conduct surveys, identify such DDOs and launch prosecutions against them.
Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, J&K R N Sahay and all officers of J&K charge were present during the meetings.
