SRINAGAR, June 30: Taking a serious cognizance of tardy post-flood rehabilitation process and an apathetic approach adopted by the union Government towards fiscal needs involved therein, MLA Kulgam Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami and MLA Khan Saheb Hakim Mohammad Yaseen have urged the State Government to convene a special session of Assembly in view of present precarious situation facing people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“The dismal scenario of post-flood rehabilitation, paltry central assistance for flood victims, marginal importance to flood protection mechanism, so called new recruitment policy, controversy engulfing the establishment of educational and health institutions like AIIMS, IITs and IIMCs, delay in reconstitution of PSC, precarious power situation, lack of development on ground and other host of public interest issues have made it imperative for the Government to convene a special session of the Assembly,” Tarigami and Yaseen said in a joint statement issued here.
They said that it is highly unfortunate that successive Governments in J&K have failed to hold sufficient number of sittings or debates on issues of public interest, legislation and budgets. “This habit of holding sessions with fewer average days than the sessions of Parliament is taking a heavy toll on issues with huge public importance. It is advisable that the Government convenes a special session to discuss these issues and come up with the solutions,” the two leaders asserted.
They urged the Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed not to underestimate the public grievances, simmering on account of administrative inertia and lack of political direction or otherwise it would be a huge injustice with the mandate to his party. They advised the PDP led Government to rise above partisan politics and try to address the demands of the people on merit.
The MLA stated that almost all sectors of socio-economic development of the State seem to have been thrown in a State of impasse. “See the condition of our National Highway, dilapidated roads, precarious power situation, defunct water supply and irrigation projects especially in various districts of South Kashmir. Peoples were made to believe that there will be liberal funding from the Central Government but unfortunately as of now even normal funding for works taken in emergency is not being made available,” they added.
