JAMMU, Feb 28: As a part of its Sunday series programme to promote heritage sites and potential tourism spots of Jammu for soft adventure activities, Tawi Trekkers J&K organized its 7th one day trek to Devi Pindian for 40 students including 25 girls of Oriental Academy Senior Secondary School, Jammu and 11 oThe group was flagged off by the Principal of the school Vivek Chauhan who also participated in the trek along with students.
President of Tawi Trekkers Ram Khajuria, Vice President of Mountaineering Association of J&K Sumit Khajuria, senior member Sonam Sidharth, Er Rajiv Sharma, Abhinav Khajuria, Rajnish Samnotra and two teachers of the school Suresh Thakur and Nitika Thapa were also a part of the group.
Starting the 8 kilometers to and fro trek for Devi Pindian from Kunia Nursery, 2 kilometers from Panthal, the trekkers enjoyed beautiful panoramic views of the lofty Trikuta hills which unfolded before them as they trekked on a narrow stones strewn trail along a small concrete stream of water.
Down below the trekkers witnessed grand spectacle of crystal clear, gushing and cascading waters of Jhajjar rivulet which has its origin at Devi Pindian. However, the trek had to be negotiated carefully at some of the points where the narrow trail just a foot wide is, in fact, a side wall of the concrete stream.
Reaching the Devi Pindian shrine the trekkers were enchanted by the sublime atmosphere and serenity of the place where as per legend the Goddess Vaishno Devi resides for nine months in a year.
On their return, the group preferred a short but steep trek and finally a 2 kilometers road walk was selected amidst the calm and cool trees.
Now the club has planned to undertake the Dhergarh trek which was postponed earlier due to certain unavoidable reasons.
