JAMMU, Mar 22: To incentivize and promote sport climbing in Jammu and Kashmir, J&K’s first trekking club, Tawi Trekkers J&K, will give cash prizes to J&K sport climbers who place first or second in national and international competitions.
This was decided in a meeting of the core members of the club chaired by Ashwani Sharma, Patron of the club, at Press Club Jammu. Prominent among others who participated in the deliberations included Ram Khajuria, Advisor; Rahul Sharma, Patron; Shawetica Khajuria, President; Arti Sharma, Sr. Vice President; Mridhu Padha, Vice President and Sonam Sidharth, general secretary of Tawi Trekkers J&K. Sumit Khajuria, Vice President of Mountaineering Association of J&K also attended the meeting as a special invitee.
While a gold medal winner in any category of the international competition in which a climber represents the country (not invitational competition) will get a cash prize of Rs one Lakh, the silver and bronze medallists will be awarded by Rs 75,000 & Rs 50,000 respectively.
Similarly, Gold, Silver and Bronze medal winners in the National Competitions shall be awarded Rs.15000, Rs 10000 and Rs 7000 respectively. However, a special incentive shall also be given to climbers winning two and three gold medals. All the climbers of J&K irrespective of their club/ district affiliations shall be eligible for the awards, announced Sonam Sidharth, general secretary of the Club.
Patron of District Mountaineering Association, Jammu Vivek Chauhan; President Rakesh Goswami, vice presidents Navneet Gupta & Sushil Singh, Joint Secretary Shilpa Charak and international climber Shivani Charak and Prerna Charak were also a part of the joint meeting of Tawi Trekkers J&K and District Mountaineering Association, Jammu who gave valuable suggestions and assured their sincere and active co-operation for achieving the desired results of Tawi Trekkers J&K.
