Team effort takes star-studded Simula XI to finals

JAMMU, June 7: Useful contributions in all three departments of the game from almost all the members of Simula XI helped it to drub National Cricket Club (NCC) by 45 runs and seal berth in the finals of the ongoing Salute and Tribute to the Players T20 Cricket Tournament, being organized by the Parade Sports Association at Parade Ground, here.
Earlier, batting first, Simula XI scored a decent total of 163 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 8 wickets in the process. Hardeep Singh top scored with 34 runs off 28 balls, studded with 4 fours and 2 sixes, while Atul contributed 33 off 19 balls with the help of 4 boundaries and 2 sixes. Skipper Dhruv Mahajan played a valuable innings of 32 runs, which included 5 boundaries, while all-rounder Sameer Khajuria contributed 28 runs to the total, in which he hit 2 boundaries and one maximum. For NCC, wrist-spinner Deepak Singh Manhas was the pick of the bowlers, who took 4 important wickets, while Manik bagged 2 and left-arm spinner Vijay Dogra claimed one.
In reply, NCC bundled out for a meagre total of 118 runs in 18.4 overs, thus lost the match by 45 runs. Jatin Wadhavan played a brilliant innings of power-packed 56 runs off just 42 balls, studded with six delectable boundaries and 2 massive sixes, while Puneet contributed 16 runs in 16 balls. Bowling all-rounder Ramdayal was the wrecker-in-chief, who plotted collapse of the rivals by scalping 4 important wickets, while off-spinner Sameer Khajuria bagged 2 wickets. Dhruv Mahajan, Vikram and Shamsher Singh Manhas claimed one wicket each. Ramdayal of Simula XI was adjudged man of the match.
The match was officiated by Harvinder Singh and JD Singh as umpires, while Ajay Sharma was the scorer. Dr Karan Nayyar performed the duty of an official physiotherapist, while Harsh Nayyar is the organizing secretary of the tournament.
