Sir,
The induction of the indigenously developed Tejas Light Conduct Aircraft (LCA) into Indian Air Force is certainly a major milestone and technological leap in India’s military aviation history. It is a step towards indigenisation of the defense industry.
The induction will boost the confidence of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, the manufacturer of Tejas, and will reduce our dependence on foreign aircraft manufacturers. The much delayed LCA, conceived 33 years ago, was meant to replace the antiquated Soviet-origin MiG-215. Whether the objectives will be fulfilled, only time will tell.
But one thing is clear that it will allow the manufacturers to know its strengths and weaknesses in coming times. It is reported that its sophisticated versions are yet to come to enable the IAF to meet it requirements. Till then, IAF has to be dependent on foreign fighter jets.
Yours etc….
