Thai finmin: policy rate should be cut to help economy

BANGKOK, Jan 23:  Thailand’s finance minister said on Friday the policy rate should be cut to help the economy and he was worried that the baht’s strength will hurt exports.    Sommai Phasee also told reporters that he was also concerned about more foreign fund inflows following the European Central Bank’s quantitative easing.
That will strengthen the baht and affect exports, he said. ‘In theory, interest rates should be cut, but that is up to the central bank to decide,’ he added.
The Bank of Thailand reviews interest rates on Wednesday. Most economists expect no change but some expect a cut.
