Theatre Workshop on ‘Dandaras’ concludes

Artists performing Dandaras during a workshop, organized by Natraj Natya Kunj, Cultural Society in Jammu.

JAMMU, Oct 17: A month-long Dogri Folk Dance Workshop on ‘Dandars’ concluded at Studio Ranglok, Bakshi Nagar, here today.
The workshop was organized by Natraj Natya Kunj, Cultural Society, Jammu, while J &K Academy of Art Culture and Languages, Jammu provided financial assistance for the event.
Abhishek Bharti directed the workshop and it was assisted by Aaditya Bharti.
Veteran social activist, Dr Karan ISS was chief guest on the occasion, while PL Parihar and Er Vijay Kumar were guests of honour.
Dandaras is performed in Lok Natya “Haran” which is a part of rich Dogra Cultural Heritage. This dance form includes pair of partners holding sticks in their hands to perform rhythmically on the beats of Dhol, specially designed for Dandaras.
During the workshop guidance regarding “Dandaras” was given to budding artist by Kumar A ‘Bharti’.
Dr Sudhir Mahajan shared the views on the importance of preservation of these dying folk art forms.
Abhishek Bharti, Director of this workshop while sharing his views said we must impart knowledge of our traditions and rituals to young generations, adding it is the need of hour that young generation must adopt these traditional folk art forms in their daily life and popularize them.
Rakesh Dogra and Garu Ram delivered guest lectures on ‘Dandaras’.
Students of Jyoti Parihar Public High School, Rajpura Mangotrian attended this workshop and were among the performing artists.
Chief guest Dr Karan ISS stressed on the importance of these folk art forms in daily life and said we must preserve our traditional folk forms.
