JAMMU, Nov 13: Thousands of people participated as Jammu ran for the Pride of India in the 6th Jammu Marathon organized here tody.
The event was organised by CII J&K State Council in collaboration with Board of Development for Sports in India (BDSI)
Chairman, BDSI Ch Lal Singh, Minister for Forests Environment & Ecology; Chief Patron,  Kavinder Gupta, Speaker, J&K Legislative Assembly; Priya Sethi, Minister of State for Education;  Naveen Kumar, Advisor DOPT, Govt. of India; S Charanjeet Singh Khalsa, MLC; Sanjay Saraf, National President (Y), Lok Jan Shakti Party; Yudhveer Sethi, State Vice President BJP along with Danish Rana, IGP Jammu; Kuldeep Dhar, IG CRPF; Upadhyay, IG BSF flagged off the event.
Participation of BSF, CRPF, IRP, JKP, Forest Department and IRP was quite visible in the event.
The Marathon started at 8 am from M.A. Stadium at Jewel Chowk. The runners started gathering at the venue early in the morning, an exercise workout was conducted by Marathon Runners of international fame Gaurav Gupta and Rajesh Padha.
Chairman Ch Lal Singh reached the venue amidst cheers from the youth.
He addressed the gathering and said that the 6th Jammu Marathon is dedicated to Brave Indian Soldiers, adding that we cannot repay the debt of our Indian forces and their families.
Priya Sethi also expressed pleasure at such a strong gathering. She said that the spirit of youth gives a clear message that all countrymen especially the people of Jammu & Kashmir are standing Rock Solid with our forces which are fighting the anti national forces which are hell bent to destroy our fabric of life.
After flag-off, Ch. Lal Singh, Kavinder Gupta and Yudhveer Sethi ran with the participants to showcase their commitment for the Indian forces. All of them completed the race along with hundreds of participants.
Constable Romel Singh of 166 BN CRPF secured first position while Constable Sukhdev Singh of 166 BN CRPF bagged second position. Dolma emerged as winner amongst the women runners while Insha secured second position.
On Completion of his race, Kavinder Gupta was thrilled by the passion of the youth which was dancing on the songs of nationalism. He joined the youth in dance and songs of nationalism and patriotism.
Prominent among others who participated in the event were Vimal Manchanda (Vice-Chairman),  Sanjay Gupta (Vice-President), Sagar Gupta (Secretary), Rahul Sahai, Vice-Chairman CII, Gaurav Mahajan, State Head CII, BDSI Executive Committee Members-Mohan Lal, SSP, Sandeep Mengi, Kuldeep Tikoo, Sareesh Zutshi, Rajeshwar Barna, Paramjeet Sharma (Jimmy), Aman, Rohini Singh, Sheetal Bhat, Pooja, Vimmi Suri, Shivani Sharma and Shama Raina.
