To Mark Platinum Jubilee; Army launches cycle expedition

LEH, Aug 6: To commemorate the Platinum Jubilee Year of the Territorial Army (TA), a landmark cycle expedition was launched, covering the distance from Siachen Base Camp to Indira Point, the southernmost tip of India.
The year 2024 is the platinum jubilee year of the Territorial Army as it will complete 75 years of raising. To commemorate this occasion the Territorial Army is conducting the first ever expedition from Siachen Glacier to Indira Point’. The expedition is aimed to be conducted in two legs i.e. Mainland Leg and Island Leg traversing a distance of approximately 5,500 kms through land, air and sea.
The 21-member team of TA personnel was flagged off from Siachen Base Camp on July 30, 2024, and reached Leh on August 2. Later, they interacted with the General Officer Commanding, 72 Sub Area. The team will cycle through India to Chennai, then move to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, continuing southward to Indira Point.
The expedition, which also includes sailing and scuba diving activities, aims to promote national integration, environmental consciousness, and public awareness about the Indian Army. The journey will conclude with the hoisting of the Tricolour underwater at Indira Point.
