SRINAGAR:Traffic on the national highway, connecting the Ladakh with the Kashmir valley, was restored partially today after remaining suspended for two days due to landslides, triggered by cloudburst.
The highway was closed after the road was damaged at four places due to cloudburst on Friday evening. However, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintainance of the highway immediately put into service sophisticated machines and men to clear the landslides.
The road had suffered major damage at several places due to cloudburst, official sources said, adding it had now been partially repaired.
We are allowing vehicles, which were stranded at Sonmarg, Baltal and other places towards Srinagar, they said, adding as a precautionary measure vehicles are moving very slowly on the damaged portion of the road.
Vehicles stranded on this side will be allowed to move towards Sonmarg and Leh in the afternoon, they said, adding no fresh vehicle will be allowed from any side before all stranded vehicles are cleared. Suspension of the traffic on this road has badly affected Amarnath pilgrims who remained stranded at Sumbal and Manigam transit camps. However, some of them reached Baltal base camp after covering the distance on foot. (AGENCIES)
