JAMMU, Mar 5: The Traffic on busy Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained suspended for about 12 hours after landslides at Panthyal in Ramban sector last night.
Official sources said that at around 1.30 am, landslides caused extensive damage to steel tunnel constructed at Panthyal for the safety of vehicles and passengers. With this, the movement of vehicles was suspended on the busy highway.
After this, the process of frequent falling of boulders continued till early morning. This hampered the restoration work for several hours.
The restoration work was, however, started at around 7 am today. The National Highway authorities’ team after hard work managed to restore highway at around 2 pm today. After this, hundreds of stranded vehicles on both sides were allowed to move ahead. Massive traffic jam was witnessed between Ramsu and Banihal till this evening. The local and Traffic police had hard time to clear the vehicles trapped in long traffic jam.
