JAMMU, Dec 21: Twenty one day Winter School Training Programme for Capacity Building in Geospatial Technology, organized by the Department of Remote Sensing and GIS, began today at the University of Jammu.
Vice Chancellor Prof R D Sharma formally inaugurated the training programme and said that in the present era of information technology with rapid advancement in computing, decision making has become more informed, scientific, focused and productive. The field of Geospatial Technology has been identified as one of the three most important emerging fields along with nanotechnology and biotechnology because of its diverse applications and providing unbiased, reliable, repetitive and synoptic nature of data as well as tools for integration of information for analysis, research, planning and development, he added.
Prof Sharma called for introducing Geospatial Technology at various levels in an education system in a designed way to provide wider understanding and acceptance of the Geospatial technology.
Dr A Senthil Kumar, Director, Indian Institute of Remote Sensing Dehradun, who was the guest of honour, delivered the plenary talk on the topic “Overview of Geospatial Technology”. He briefed about the application of geospatial technology in the various field of Science and Technology. He acclaimed that the vast opportunity of high job markets is available in the field of Geospatial technology for the post graduate level students around the world.
Prof Rajni Dhingra, Dean Faculty of Sciences, while speaking at this occasion, said that such capacity building programme on Geospatial Technology always strengthen the skill of the participants and the younger researcher in the field of Science and Technology and also boost skill development for job market.
Earlier in his welcome address, Professor A S Jasrotia, Head Remote Sensing & GIS, and Coordinator of this training programme, gave a detailed report about this programme.
Prof Anil K Raina, Prof Manoj K Dhar, Prof S K Pandey, Prof R K Ganjoo, Prof Yash Paul Sharma, Dr Anuradha Sharma and others were also present on the occasion.
