TRCF demands opening of Gojri Research Centre at JU

JAMMU, June 30: Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation (TRCF) demanded establishment of Gojri Department in University of Jammu.
In a statement, Dr Javed Rahi, secretary, TRCF said the University of Jammu is deliberately delaying the establishment of Centre without any reason which stands approved by the highest body of University three year back in a meeting headed by SK Sinha the then Governor of the State in presence of the then Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad.
“In 2008, a decision in this regard was taken in the Council meeting in the presence of Governor, who is also the Chancellor of Jammu University, but since then the issue has been ignored by concerned authorities”, Dr Rahi added.
“University authorities have deliberately ignored the issue, which aims at promoting Gojri language”, he said.
Dr Rahi said that there is urgent need for promoting studies and research in tribal art, culture, tradition, language, custom, and only this Research Centre will fulfill all these growing demands and with the help of this Centre the richest tribal traditions of Gujjars could be persevered for all generations to come.
He urged Governor, Chief Minister and Vice Chancellor of Jammu University to take immediate steps for the establishment of Gojri Research Centre.
