JAMMU, Nov 5: Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation (TRCF)- a frontal organization of Gujjars-Bakerwals of the State today demanded adequate time slot for Gojri on all local Radio stations and Doordarshan Kendras as per their population.
In a letter addressed to Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Manesh Tewari by Dr Javaid Rahi, secretary, TRCF demanded one hour daily programme in Gojri from DD Sringar, DD Jammu and asked for due representation to Gojri speaking people on DD Kashir.
He also highlighted the issues of Gojri language with regard to its projection and promotion on All India Radio and Doordarshan Kendras in J&K.
Dr Rahi said that Gojri was one of the significant languages of India and it needs special attention and encouragement of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Government of India with regard to its representation and promotion on AIR and DD channels at National and State Levels.
He added that Gujjars and Bakerwals–the speakers of Gojri language constitute more than 20 per cent population of the State are completely ignored by the Doordarshan in J&K and no proper representation was provided to their art, culture, languages, customs and secular ethos for which they are known across the world.
DD Kashmir and DD Jammu telecast weekly programme in Gojri which is great injustice with this important tribal language, he added.
