Treat displaced people at par with KPs: Singh

SAMBA, Mar 1: Former Minister and senior Congress leader Manjit Singh said that the displaced persons should be given facilities at par with the Kashmiri Pandits including reservation in the professional educational institutions and reservation in jobs.
He said this while addressing meeting of the Congress workers at Vijaypur.
Singh said that a delegation of refugees and displaced persons met Revenue Minister Ajaz Khan where the officers of the Revenue Department were also present.
Expressing satisfaction over the assurances given by the Minister, Singh said that they were agreed over the appointment of an officer to listen the grievances of the displaced persons and refugees.
He said it seems that the Government has been seriously looking into the demands of the refugees and displaced persons.
He hoped that the Government would provide the needed information regarding the refugees and displaced persons to the Central Government for their rehabilitation.
Singh advocated tenancy right for the displaced persons of 1971 and 1965 and said that the Revenue Minister has also assured to do the need full for the redressal of the issues.
He criticized the political interference in the Social Welfare Department in Samba district and accused them of avoiding the genuine people who deserve benefits of pension policy.
Even though the Central Government has been pumping crores of rupee in J&K under the Old Age Pension scheme, he said, in Samba district these facilities are given keeping in view the political considerations.
Among others present were district vice president Babbal Gupta, senior leader Colonel Swarn Singh Vijay Choudhary, Billu Choudhary, Shamsher Singh Jamwal, Sarpanch Sham Bhagat, Natha Ram, etc.
