JAMMU: Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to throw open much awaited Chenani-Nashri Tunnel likely in mid of March, a trial run was conducted today in the tunnel in Udhampur district.
”A trial run of Cheneni-Nashri tunnel was conducted this evening from 1603 hours to 1703 hours and large number of vehicles were allowed to pass through the tunnel, which brought relief and smiles to the people passing through the tunnel,” an official here said.
He said that the vehicles passing through the tunnel were briefed on DOs and Don’t’s besides precautions to be taken while crossing the tunnel. The vehicles were advised to tune in to radio channels for announcements while passing through the tunnel, keep low beam with head lights on, observe speed limit of 50 Kms Per hour, he added.
An official said that a large number of vehicles were held for traffic violations and being the first time, they were let off with a warning while one vehicle was seized for rash driving. (AGENCIES)
