Tributes paid to Mahatma Gandhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri on birth anniversary

JAMMU, Oct 2: Rich tributes were paid to Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi and son of the soil Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversary.
To commemorate October 2nd as the International day of Non-Violence, Office of the Chairman NSS Campus Units in collaboration with the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu organized a panel discussion on the theme “Relevance of Gandhian Thoughts in the Contemporary World” for the students of the University of Jammu. Prof Jasbir Singh, Chairman, NSS Campus Units, University of Jammu presented the welcome address. Prof PK Shrivastva, Dean Students Welfare, University of Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion. A documentary on the life of Gandhi ji “My Life Is My Message” was screened. The panelists for the function were Prof Anurag Gangal, Director, Gandhian Studies Centre, University of Jammu and Dr Twinkle Suri, Director, Gandhian Studies Centre, Government MAM College. Dr Anupama Vohra, Associate Dean, Students Welfare presented review of the film screened on the life of Mahatma Gandhi.
The birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri was celebrated at Government Degree College Rajouri by organizing two-days workshop on peace and non violence. MOS and VC PAB Kuldeep Raj Gupta was the chief guest. Principal of the college and Former NSS Commander and National Awardee Vikrant Sharma interacted with the NSS volunteers.
NCC and NSS units of Government GLDM Degree College, Hiranagar organized a rally to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday. The rally was flagged off by Dr Naresh Kumar Gupta, Principal of the college. The rally after passing through Hiranagar Morh and bazaars culminated in the college premises.
Government Degree College, Gool celebrated Gandhi Jayanti. Floral tributes were paid to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri by the Principal Dr Chander Shekhar, staff and students of the college. A symposium was also organized on the topic “Importance of Non-violence in today’s life”. A rally was also organized from GDC Gool in order to give a general awareness to the masses for adopting non-violence which finally culminated in the college premises.
To commemorate International Day of Non-violence, NCC and NSS unit of Government Degree College, Samba organised symposium on the topic “Truth and Non-violence”. The function was presided over by the principal Dr Romesh Chander. A total of 15 students spoke on the occasion. Bhubnesh Kumar, Reetika Sambyal and Neeraj Chouhan claimed first, second and third positions respectively, whileas consolation prizes were bagged by Arti and Shagun.
On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, NSS and NCC units of Government Degree College, Udhampur celebrated Gandhi Jayanti. Principal Prof SS Bhalwal along with NSS & NCC officers paid floral tributes to Gandhi ji and Lal Bhadur Shastri. A symposium was organized on the topic “Relevance of Gandhian Philosophy in the present Scenario”, in which 12 speakers participated.
To commemorate Gandhi Jayanti, NSS units of GGM Science College organized a peace rally, which was flagged off by Principal Dr Ajeet Angral. The rally after passing through different areas including Canal Road, Bakshi Nagar culminated at College, where participants shared their experience about the rally.
Gandhi Memorial College of Education, Raipur, Bantalab celebrated Gandhi Jayanti. On the occasion, Verinder Raina, member HESK, Principal of the College Prof GL Koul, Prof HL Misri, coordinator, MCMP, Prof Satish Talashi, Administrator and Programme coordinator Ravinder Thusoo highlighted the importance of the day.
A week-long celebration of first anniversary of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan culminated with the paying of tributes to the father of nation, marathon and number of other colourful activities at DPS Jammu. About 100 students from DPS Jammu along with 30 teachers participated in the marathon from Satwari to Floriculture Department, Gandhi Nagar. It was flagged off by Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh and other dignitaries. In the felicitation function, Speaker, Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta and Director Floriculture Department Ashok Gupta presented award to Principal of the institution Ruchi Chabra for the services rendered during the week-long “Swachh Bharat” drive.
Jodhamal School teachers celebrated Gandhi Jayanti and paid tributes to the father of Nation. They also remembered Lal Bahadur Shastri. Principal Trilok Singh Bist threw light on the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi. Sanjay Pandey and Mubeen Butt also talked about the teachings of Gandhi ji.
Army Public School, Dhar Road, Udhampur celebrated Gandhi Jayanti. The students of class X enacted a short play in the morning assembly. The school choir sang “Raghupati Raghav and Sabarmati Ke Sant”. Students spoke on the life of Mahatma Gandhi. Principal, Ramma Raina announced the Campaign of “Go Green and Go Clean” in the school.
Week-long programme to commemorate Gandhi Jayanti culminated at KNIT and KNIT Green Model Academy. The students and staff members visited different areas and carried out cleanliness drives. They also created awareness among the masses about cleanliness. Students sang bhajans. Yoga was also held in KNIT on the directions of Principal Bimla Bloria. Prof JL Kotwal, Director, threw light on the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi.
Government Boys Middle School, Gorakh Nagar organized “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” programme to commemorate Gandhi Jayanti. Floral tributes were paid to Mahatma Gandhi by VEC members, staff, students, SHO Gorakh Nagar and senior citizens. A rally was also organized on the occasion.
Rich tributes were paid to the Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi by National Incredible Literacy Mission (NILM), Jammu. A workshop on the role of Gandhian Philosophy was organized. Rakeshwar Singh, Project Director, NILM, Jammu along with Sarla Sadhu, Joint secretary, NILM gave a lecture on the role of Gandhian Philosophy in day today life. In the end of the function, notebooks were donated among poor children studying in the NGO.
National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) celebrated Gandhi Jayanti at Kishtwar. The function was organised by Prakash Singh Dadwal, District President, NSUI Kishtwar. Senior Congress Leader and Block President Congress Committee Kishtwar Haji Ghulam Hassan Mir was the chief guest on the occasion. The speakers in their speeches threw light on the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi.
All the Health Institutions of Jammu Province observed Gandhi Jayanti as Kushth Mukti Abhiyan Diwas. On the occasion, Zonal Leprosy Officer and Chief Medical Officer along with concerned officials organized Kushth Mukti Abhiyan Rath Yatra. Director Health Services, Dr Baljeet Pathania, flagged off the Rath Yatra from the Directorate of Health Services Jammu in presence of Zonal Leprosy Officer, senior officers and officials of the health department. The Rath Yatra passed through different areas of Jammu district.
A programme was organized by Gandhi Global Family to commemorate 146th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi. Huge gathering including students, academicians, State Administrators, prominent citizens, women activists and NGOs were present on the occasion. SP Varma Vice President, Gandhi Global Family presented Indo-UN Pins to Dr Pawan Kotwal, Divisional Commissioner and Sangeeta Gupta, Principal Income Tax Commissioner for their contributions towards society. Anjali Sharma, Director Doordarshan and President, JWAM, Sunil Dimple were also present. Flag display of 193 countries by Lawrence Public School and debate competition on topic “Importance of Non-Violence in Building Better World” by GCW Gandhi Nagar were main highlights of the programme.
The volunteers of Shakti Punj celebrated Gandhi Jayanti by organizing Swach Bharat Abhiyan in Hiranagar town, Jasmergarh fort of Hiranagar and other areas of the town. Safai karamcharis of Municipal Committee Hiranagar with their president Mangal Dass actively participated in the drive. President of the organization Kuljeet Singh Bablu, Himmat Singh, Amir Sharma, Ramesh Kumar, Surjeet, Rinku Sharma, besides many others were present on the occasion.
Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated by Khadi Gram Mandal, Jammu. Yash Paul Singh, Deputy Director, KVIC, Jammu, Sham Singh, ADO, KVIC, Subash Chander, Secretary, management and staff members of Mandal were present on the occasion. The speakers in their speeches threw light on the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi.
Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated by Khadi Gramodyog Sewa Sansthan. All the staff members’ alongwith secretary Rajesh Kumar Bakshi paid tributes to Gandhi Jayanti and threw light on the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi. Traditional Charkha was also run by the stag members to pay tributes to the father of the Nation.
146th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was celebrated jointly by Gandhi Bhawan Committee and Shri Gandhi Sewa Sadan. On the occasion, Dr Goutam Mengi and retd teacher Jagdish threw light on the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi. Dr Ved Kumar Ghai announced 20 per cent rabbet on purchase of Khadi goods till November 30. students of various institutions and children of Bal Niketan, Balika Niketan Ved Mandir presented various inspiring songs.
J&K Khadi and Village Industries Board, Jammu celebrated Gandhi Jayanti. The event was marked with prayer services and tributes. Deputy Chief Executive Officer, KVIB, Santosh Saraf was also present. The day was also celebrated in the district offices of KVIB.
Bhartiya Yog Sanstha celebrated Gandhi Jayanti and 49th Yog Divas. The function was attended by large number of yog sadhak, who practiced combined yog sadhna. MLA Sat Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion and Davinder Gupta, architect was guest of honour. Parmod Jain, a senior member of the Sansthan was also present.
J&K Freedom Fighters Association paid tributes to the former Prime Minister of India, late Lal Bahadur Shastri and father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi on their birth anniversary. The function was organized under the chairmanship of president of the association Ved Gandotra, in which members of various organizations took part. The speakers and other members threw light on the life and teachings of both the leaders.
Bhartiya Lok Sangeet Kala Sansthan (BLSKS) in collaboration with Unison Cultural Troupe and Sangam Tru art Production paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri by organizing a function. The function was inaugurated by VK Magotra, Former Regional Director of Directorate of Field and Publicity in presence of Dr Anju Dogra from Health Department, Romesh Chander, Event Director, ML Dogra, Chairman, BLSKS and other prominent persons. The singers, musician, actors and students of Music and Computer Institute also participated in the function.
On the occasion of birth anniversary of Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, all member of Sky high India Social Organisation paid floral tributes to them by garlanding their portraits. Aman Kalsotra, Social Activist was also present.
To commemorate Gandhi Jayanti, a function was organized by Munish Raja, general secretary, All Jammu and Kashmir Social Welfare Institute. Vinod Sharma, District President, Urban People Democratic Party was the chief guest. Floral tributes were paid to Mahatma Gandhi. Dr Sudesh Gupta, Dr Vaishno Dutt Sharma, Ex-Corporator Arun Khanna and social worker Pt Jagan Nath Sharma were honoured on the occasion.
As part of observation of Gandhi Jayanti besides anniversary of Swachh Bharat Mission, special gram sabhas were organized at Ghagwal, Harsath and Nonath panchayats in district Samba. ACD samba, Tilak Raj Thapa was the chief guest while sarpanches, panches, self help groups, UMEED members, prominent citizens participated in the event. A plantation drive was launched in the block premises and thereafter a cleanliness-cum-awareness walk was held in the vicinity of panchayat. Similar programmes were held in other panchayats of district Samba.
To commemorate Gandhi Jayanti, Rural Development Department organized 147 Special Gram Sabhas in all panchayats of the district Reasi to raise awareness among the people about various programs of the department. During the programme, schemes and missions with special emphasis on sanitation, zero tolerance for use of polythene, maintenance and cleanliness of water bodies and plantation for clean and green villages besides developmental plans under MGNREGA and 14th FC were highlighted. The main function was organized at Panchayat Aghar Jitto in Block Katra. Assistant Commissioner Development, Reasi, Suram Chand Sharma presided over the function. Later, Sharma witnessed special Gram Sabha programme at Panchayat Kun Droryian in Block Katra. At block Headquarter Arnas, BDO Rajesh Padha presided over the special Gram Sabha and at Block Thuroo, anti polythene drive was conducted by BDO Rajesh Padha while at BHQ panchayat Mari-A, BDO Reasi Akshi Gupta presided over the special gram sabha. Meanwhile, BDO Bhamag,  Surinder Kumar, BDO Panthal, Pawan Singh, BDO Chassan, Subash Chander, BDO Pouni, Aftab Ahmed and BDO Mahore, Mohammad Iqbal organized functions in their respective blocks.
On Gandhi Jayanti, Student Association of Ladakh Jammu organized a programme at SP Smart Higher Secondary School. A health interaction was held among all the participants. New executive members of the association were framed. Asif Hussain was elected as president, Omayra Mehboob as vice president, Irshad Ali as general secretary, Amina Bano and Arif Hussain as cashiers.
To commemorate Gandhi Jayanti, Rural Development Department organized 244 Special Gram Sabhas in all panchayats of the district Kathua to raise awareness among the people about various programs of the department. DC kathua Romesh Chander chaired the function at Chan Grain Panchayat. He was accompanied by ADC Susheel Kumar and other office bearers.
