JAMMU, Jan 31: Dogra Brahman Pratinidhi Sabha and Shri Kailakh Jyotish Avim Vedic Sansthan Trust paid tributes to Major Somnath Sharma on his 99th birth anniversary.
On birth anniversary of Major Somnath Sharma, a function was organized at Brahman Sabha, Parade under the chairmanship of Dogra Brahman Pratinidhi Sabha President Ved Parkash Sharma and large number people from different walk of life participated in the function. The function started with Hawan and patriotic songs.
President Dogra Brahman Pratinidhi Sabha Ved Parkash Sharma, Senior BJP leader Chander Mohan Sharma, prominent social activist Ex-DC BS Jamwal, Senior Member of Dogra Brahman Pratinidhi Sabha among others highlighted the great role of Major Somnath Sharma who laid down his life while defending the Srinagar Airport from the attack by Pakistan Army on November 3, 1947.
Meanwhile, Shri Kailakh Jyotish Avim Vedic Sansthan Trust organised a program at Karwanda, Kot Bhalwal, Jammu in the memory of first Param Vir Chakra awardee Major Somnath Sharma on his 99th birthday anniversary.
Trust members highlighted the great role of Major Somnath Sharma, who laid down his life while defending the Srinagar Airport from the attack of tribal in collaboration with Pakistan Army on November 3, 1947. Trust Secretary Rakesh Gandotra has appealed to the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to pay homage to the great personality by rechristening Kashmir Airport on the name of Major Somnath Sharma and providing a suitable place to install statue of the martyr in the City of Temples.
