JAMMU, Nov 25: Rich tributes were paid to the martyrs of mirpur.
As usual, the Mirpuris residing in Jammu city and its peripheral colonies, today conducted Prabhat pheries.
The Prabhat Pheries passed from different areas including Sarwal, Rehari, Bakshi Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, Shastri Nagar, Trikuta Nagar and Channi Himmat. Later, all met at Mirpur Shaheedi Samarak at Maheshpura Chowk Bakshi Nagar and paid rich floral tributes to the martyrs of Mirpur.
On the occasion, speeches made by many speakers and poems sung by the patriots of Mirpur, brought tears in the eyes of the participants.
This shardanjli Samaroh started with Gytri Mantras and culminated with shanti path.
Mirpur–the erstwhile District of Jammu and Kashmir State (Now in PoK) fell to Pakistani raiders on 25th November, 1947. On this very day, more than 18000 citizens of Mirpur city which included men, women and children of minor ages were brutally killed, about 3500 persons were made prisoners and huddled up in old deserted and unhygienic ruined Gurudwara building at Alibeg.
Meanwhile, The PoJK DPs Front (1947, 65,71), Camp and Non-Camp-1971, observed Martyrs’ Day in memory of all their nears and dears, who lost their lives in aggression of Pakistani army and raiders and also in Kargil war in a function here today.
A large number of members of the displaced families from Mirpur/PoK assembled at Mahesh Pura Chowk near Govt Medical College, Jammu in the morning and paid floral tributes to the martyrs in a simple function held today. They also observed 2-minutes’ silence to pay their respect to the martyrs.
DPs’ leader, Capt Yudhvir Singh Chib was leading. He paid rich tributes to martyrs and raised slogans paying respect to the Martyrs and the motherland. He also addressed the gathering. Chib recalled the tragedy of Mirpur, Muzaffrabad, Bhimber during 1947 and said how their family members were massacred while fighting the raiders. He also projected the burning issues of the DPs.
