NEW DELHI: The Lok Sabha will discuss The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2018 on December 27. As soon as Speaker Sumitra Mahajan announced on Thursday that the House is taking up The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2018, also known as the ”Triple Talaq” Bill, leader of the Congress Mallikarjun Kharge requested the Speaker to take up the Bill on December 27 saying that their party will participate in the discussion on the Bill.
”I give you a commitment that we will participate in the discussion on the Bill,” Mr Kharge said. After Mr Kharge’s assurance, Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said he respects Mr Kharge and he has made the promise in the House.
Mr Prasad said he also expects that the discussion on the Bill will be held peacefully as it is an important Bill. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Narendra Singh Tomar also agreed that the Bill will be taken up on December 27.
N K Premachandran (RSP) also said that he will move statutory resolution against the Bill on December 27 only and said let the House be in order.
The Speaker said if the House agrees to take up the Bill on December 27 then she has no problem. Later, the National Trust for Welfare of Persons with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation and Multiple Disabilities (Amendment) Bill, 2018 was taken up for consideration and passing in the House.
Moving the Bill for consideration and passing, Union Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment Shri Thaawar Chand Gehlot said the Bill has already been passed in the Rajya Sabha.
The Bill seeks to amend the National Trust for Welfare of Persons with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation and Multiple Disabilities Act, 1999. The Bill was passed by voice vote and the House was adjourned for the day. (AGENCIES)
