Srinagar, Aug 12: Inspector General of Border Security Force (BSF), Dr Jagat Singh, today said that militants are desperate to infiltrate for which they are making attempts but troops along the Line of Control (LoC) are ready to foil their designs.
While speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a function, Singh said: “I won’t say there is increase in infiltration. The trend of infiltration is similar as it was in the previous years.” He, however, said troops are alert on the LoC to foil infiltration attempts.
IG expressed concern over the breaking of protests during security forces operations against militants. “There is a need to check this trend”, he added.
Singh refused to comment on the killing of a youth in South Kashmir’s Padgampora village in alleged BSF firing. He, however, said that police is conducting inquiry into the incident.
The IG said that Kashmiri youth should differentiate between good and bad and those who join militancy invite trouble. “Joining militancy is not going to help any youth in Kashmir. Whosoever joins militant ranks invites trouble for him. It doesn’t matter whether militants are educated or illiterate, what matters is their capability to strike. Security forces will never go soft on any militant,” he said.
Singh was speaking to the media after planting an apple tree at Headquarters of BSF at Humhama near Srinagar Airport on the occasion of planting over 4 lakh trees across the country in half an hour as part of Golden Jubilee celebrations of the border guards.
IG said that BSF planted 15000 trees in Kashmir today in 30 minutes as part of breaking its own record in Limca Book of World records by planting over 4 lakh trees across India. He said last year the BSF made a record of planting 3.5 lakh trees in half an hour.
