Truck falls in gorge, driver killed

RAMBAN, Oct 19: Driver of a truck here today died on the spot after his vehicle veered off the road and fell into a deep gorge at Gujjar Morh near Khooni Nallah on Jammu-Srinagar Highway.
Police said that rashly driven truck bearing registration number JK01AJ-5681 was on way to Srinagar from Jammu and it plunged into a 300-400 feet deep gorge leaving the driver dead on the spot.
On getting information rescue teams of Police and local volunteers reached the spot and retrieved the body of the driver from the gorge and shifted it to nearby Ramsu Hospital.
Police identified the deceased as Umar Hussain War, son of Mohammad Hussain War, resident of Edipora, Bomai, Sopore, District Baramulla.
After post-mortem and other legal formalities the body was handed over to legal heirs.
SHO Police Station Ramban, Inspector Vijay Kotwal said a case in FIR number 259 of 2024 under section 281/106 BNS was registered in this regard and investigation started.
