JAMMU, June 26: Bahu Fort police under ‘Operation Sanjeevani’ arrested a trucker and recovered 64 kilograms of poppy straw from his possession.
According to SP South Sandeep Choudhary, on specific information, a team from Bahu Fort Police Station laid a naka and intercepted a truck bearing registration number JK02AQ-3117.
During checking, police recovered 64 kilograms of poppy straw from the vehicle and arrested the driver, who has been identified as Gurmeet Singh alias Rimpu, son of Ugager Singh, a resident of Ward Number 1 Simbal Camp, SP said, adding that a case under FIR Number 167/18 under Section 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Bahu Fort and further investigation is being conducted to pinpoint his contact persons in Jammu through whom he used to get the drugs peddled to youth in Jammu.
Police team led by SDPO East Vipin Chandran and assisted by SHO Bahu Fort Inspector Parvez Sajjad made the arrest.
SP added that the individual used to allegedly procure drugs and supply the same in Jammu. He termed this catch as an important milestone.
He expressed that he was optimistic about winning this war, but the most important role in that direction has to be played by parents and schools.
“If young boys are getting into drugs at such early ages, there must be something wrong with the way we are grooming our children. Drug dealers exploit them by offering free drugs for trial and charge hefty amounts once the trial turns into addiction. Once these young boys become addicts they move towards crime and this turns into thefts, snatchings and more drugs”, SP Sandeep Choudhary added.
