SRINAGAR : Striking twice within a span of six hours, militants today killed two security force personnel and wounded as many persons in south Kashmir.
A CRPF jawan was killed and another injured when ultras fired at the escort of ruling National Conference MLC Shoukat Ahmad Ganie in village Almeira in Shopian district, 52-km from here, officials said.
Ganie was in the village to attend a private function and was inside a house when the militants struck at around 6.25 PM, they said.
The attackers took away the service rifles of the dead and injured jawans before fleeing, the officials said.
Security forces immediately cordoned off the area to track down the ultras.
Earlier in the day, militants shot dead a policeman and took away his service rifle in Anantnag district.
A civilian was also injured in the firing and was hospitalised, the officials said.
Constable Salamatullah was shot at from point blank range by some unidentified ultras in village Khudwani, 62-km from here, at around 1 PM.
The constable, part of a patrol party, was rushed to hospital where he succumbed to injuries.
Before fleeing, the militants took away the service rifle of the cop, the officials said.
No militant outfit has so far claimed responsibility for the twin attacks. (AGENCIES)
