JAMMU, May 17: Nagrota police arrested two real brothers while they were transporting 200 bags of Government cement belonging to Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department for black-marketing.
As per police sources, information was generated by SDPO Nagrota Bharat Bhushan Sharma that some persons are engaged in black-marketing of Government cement from Sitni Water Filtration Plant, Nagrota.
Acting over the information, a team from Nagrota police station laid a naka at TCP during the intervening night of May 16 and 17 and signaled a truck bearing registration number JK08A-7568 on its way to Jammu from Nagrota for checking.
On seeing police cops, the driver accelerated the vehicle and escaped from the spot. Stinking something fishy, the cops chased the vehicle and intercepted it near some distance from the checking point.
Police seized 200 bags of government cement from the truck and arrested two persons on the spot, who have been identified as Javad Iqbal and Mohammad Farooq, sons of Ghulam Hassian, residents of Phagla, tehsil Surankote, district Poonch.
During preliminary investigation, it came to fore that the cement was meant for the construction of lake at Sitlee Water Filtration Plant at Nagrota and the aforesaid accused were taking it for black-marketing, but police foiled their bid and seized the bags along with the vehicle.
Some PHE officials are also involved in this illegal trade and police is questioning them.
A case under FIR Number 111/16 under Section 406 and 409 RPC has been registered at Nagrota police station and further investigation into the case is going on.
Police team led by SDPO Nagrota Bharat Bhushan Sharma and assisted by Tehsildar Nagrota and SHO Nagrota Inspector Karan Chalotra made the arrest and seized the Government cement under the supervision of SP Rural Arun Gupta.
