SRINAGAR, Jan 21: In a first, an off-road snow festival was organized at star tourist attraction Gulmarg in North Kashmir in an attempt to generate awareness about snow sports and car rallies.
The festival began today and it is being organized by ‘Kashmir off-road club’. One of the organizers, Tufail Khan, said that the festival is being organized for the first time in snow-bound Gulmarg and the aim is to create awareness about the snow sports and car rallies and also to attract more tourists.
He said that they had received 230 entries for the festival and out of them they have had selected 50 cars. “Today, 40 cars participated in the run and tomorrow rest of the 10 would participate. However, the first 40 would also be attending again tomorrow for second run,” Tufail said, adding that the festival will conclude with an award ceremony.
“Our endeavour to organize this event has been to bring together like minded individuals and build an off-road community in Kashmir,” said Tufail, adding that so far they have received an overwhelming response. One of the participants, Taj Irshad, from Gulmarg said that the festival of car rally was held for the first time in Gulmarg, saying: “it will attract more and more tourists”.
