Two militants killed in Doda encounter

 

Jammu : Two militants were gunned down in an encounter with Army troops in mountainous Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir early today.       “Based on specific inputs, an operation was launched during midnight in Gaddi Nullah area of Doda,” S N Acharya, Officiating Spokesperson, Ministry of Defence said here.       He said, on being challenged, the terrorists fired indiscriminately at security forces.       “In the ensuing fire fight, two terrorists have been killed at 0430 hrs this morning,” he added.       He further said one AK Rifle and one INSAS were recovered from the slain terrorists.       Meanwhile, police sources said the killed militants were reportedly identified as Riyaz Ahmad and Gul Mohammad, who surrendered years back and were recruited as special police officers.       The duo had fled away with their official weapons and since then, the police and Army had launched operations to trace them.       “The operation was still on,” they added.     The Army last night also foiled an infiltration bid in Krishna Ghati Sector of Poonch in which a jawan was martyred and a militant was shot dead.
