SRINAGAR: Two militants were killed by security forces in a fierce encounter in south Kashmir district of Shopian on Monday afternoon, official sources said. Police confirmed the death of one militant in the encounter and operation was going on.
Sources said on a tip-off about the presence of two to three militants, security forces and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint search operation at village Gatipora, Keller, in Shopian district Monday afternoon. However, when the security forces were moving towards particular area in the village, militants hiding there opened indiscriminate fire with automatic weapons.
Security forces also retaliated, ensuing an encounter in which two militants were killed so far, they said. (AGENCIES)
