JAMMU, Nov 2: A team of Food Safety wing of Drug and Food Control Organization (DFCO) Jammu today destroyed 2 quintals of sub-standard ‘paneer’ in Jammu City.
The action came following extensive market checking by the Food Safety teams on the eve of Deepawali and other upcoming festivals. During checking, a team of Food Safety wing raided upon the establishments of the Food Business Operators including M/s Suryia Paneer Corner, M/s Jandyal Cheese Corner and M/s Vishal Sharma Cheese Dealer located at BC Road Jammu.
The team found the cheese being sold by these three business operators suspicious and hence, lifted three random samples from each business establishment. On analysis in the local Food Safety lab, all these samples were found sub-standard and accordingly, the rest of ‘paneer’ weighing about more than 2 quintals, which was kept under the proper vigil and custody, was destroyed on the spot.
The Food Safety teams also imparted awareness food business operators and the consumers exclusively regarding usage of unpermitted colours, transfats (20%) and mono sodium glutamate for preparation of ‘momos’ and other relevant malpractices. The leading health hazards and side effects were also highlighted amongst the fraternities.
Further, all the traders dealing with essential commodities were instructed to follow guidelines of packing and labelling laid down under the Act, and were advised to keep sufficient/safe quantity of consumables to the public especially on the day of Deepawali.
During the course of the inspections, all the vendors were instructed to display licenses and rate lists at the prominent places of their establishments. The consumers were also appealed to register their grievances regarding food items on toll free number 104.
