SRINAGAR: Two buildings of a Government Middle School were set on fire by unidentified miscreants in south Kashmir district of Kulgam, official sources said on Friday.
A day earlier another government school was set on fire by miscreants at Wadoo in the Kulgam district, late on Thursday night.
Sources said two buildings of middle school Chawalgam, Kulgam were set on fire. However, the local residents and Fire and Emergency department officials brought the fire under control before the buildings could suffer major damage.
They said police has registered a case and started investigation.
Sources said school buildings are being targeted after Board of School Education (BOSE) announced to conduct 10th and 12th grade examinations in the valley, where students continue to stay away from their classes since August 5, when the Centre scrapped Article 370 and 35 A, besides divided the state into two Union Territories.
The divisional authorities have announced that there will be no relaxation in the syllabus and BOSE decided to conduct examination of 10th and 12th class from October 29 and 30 respectively.
In 2008 and 2010, similar situation was witnessed when about 100 school buildings were torched by miscreants. (agencies)
