Two students drown, 5 rescued

Srinagar, May 10: Police today rescued five minor students and an elderly person from Nehru Park and Duck Park this afternoon after gale struck Srinagar while two students drowned in Hokersar nallah this morning.
A police spokesman said that a boat carrying school children capsized due to windstorm in Dal Lake near Nehru Park and a police team swung into action and saved them. These minors students were on way back to their homes after attending the school.
Police said that a 75-year-old man, Mohammad Ramzan Sheikh son of Mohammad Iqbal Sheikh of Fisherman Colony was rescued by police in Nigeen after his boat overturned due to windstorm in Dal Lake near Duck Park on Foreshore road.
Police also shifted stranded tourists from Char-Chinar to safer places. These tourists were stranded there due to windstorm.
In the meantime, two teenage boys drowned in Hokersar stream in Narbal area here his morning.
A police spokesman said two boys, Irfan Syed,12, son of Syed Rehman Gogri and Shariq Nabi Bhat, 11, son of Ghulam Nabi both of Chattabal drowned in Hokersar stream at Sozaith near Narbal.
“River Police along with local police launched rescue operation to retrieve their bodies. The rescue operation was on till last reports came in,” the spokesman said.
