UDHAMPUR, Aug 30: The Department of Youth Services and Sports, Udhampur hosted the closing ceremony for the Under-19 Boys (Handball) Divisional Level Inter-District Tournament at the Mini Stadium, here.
The ceremony, attended by DYSSO Udhampur Romesh Chander Mishra as chief guest, celebrated the achievements of young athletes from 10 districts across Jammu Division. Emphasizing the importance of sports in preventing substance abuse, DYSSO Mishra urged parents to support their children’s participation in sports and highlighted the significance of voting in democratic processes.
The tournament’s final match saw Udhampur defeat Poonch with a score of 21-10. Satvik Ferria from Udhampur was the top scorer with 7 goals, while Mohd. Shahid from Poonch and Gayanav from Udhampur scored 6 goals each. The closing ceremony also featured a plantation drive, aligning with the SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) program to foster environmental and civic responsibility.
